Unconscious Biases in Academia – How to recognise and outsmart them
Workshop für wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter*innen
Trainer: Dr. Sabine Müller
This basic anti-bias training addresses researchers of all disciplines. It provides an overview of unconscious biases and its effects in everyday academic work: the workshop invites participants to further explore their decision-making and selection processes as well as interactions in teams and in the context teaching against the backdrop of unconscious biases. It, furthermore, provides the opportunity to reflect structural biases. Using case studies, the workshop also helps to raise participants’ awareness to their own patterns that might lead to exclusion, address them and develop concrete strategies for prevention of bias and change within their work environment.
This workshops wants the participants
- to develop a greater diversity competence in everyday research,
- to reflect on own role and responsibility in the academic system,
- to raise awareness to own thought patterns and their effects.
Method: Input, case analyses from research practice, group work and peer exchange
