Service Centre for Academic Personnel Development (SaPe)

Reflection module

The reflection module consists of several components that invite both individual and collective reflection on the experiences and qualification processes that you have undergone as part of the certificate programme. There are templates for the individual components, which you can use to document your reflection. At the end of the certificate programme, the individual documents are compiled in a reflection portfolio and submitted to the Service Centre for Academic Staff Development.

Components of the reflection module

After attending each event, the participants use key questions to reflect on the extent to which their participation has contributed to their professional development and which (initial) impulses they would like to transfer to their respective areas of work.

During mutual peer observation, you invite each other to your courses as silent observers and benefit from each other's previous experience and knowledge. Through the integrated constructive feedback, you can further develop yourself and your tutorial work.

Ideally, the mutual peer observation should take place during the first semester of tutoring. A guide to peer observation is available for joint preparation. In addition, the process is prepared in detail in the basic module. You are responsible for coordinating and carrying out the observation, although you can contact the SaPe at any time if necessary.

Using a reflection sheet, which is also part of the reflection portfolio, you document and reflect on your questions, goals and experiences associated with the peer observation.

After participating in peer observation, you will be able to ...

  • Understand and apply active listening techniques.
  • understand and apply the basic rules of constructive feedback processes.
  • integrate collegial feedback into your own mindset in a way that promotes development.

In the reflection session, you can analyse individual didactic decisions, experiences, but also conflicts and other challenges that have arisen within your teaching-learning or counselling settings within the peer group and with the moderating teaching coach. Together you can discuss alternative solutions and collect examples of good practice that may be helpful for your future tutoring activities.

In preparation for the reflection session, you will develop an in-depth question that relates to the content of your chosen focus topic and that you would like to discuss with your colleagues. Following the reflection session, the newly gained insights should be summarised in a short reflection text (max. half a page). This is also part of the reflection portfolio.

After participating in the event, you can ...

  • describe conflicts and challenges that have arisen in the course of your tutoring activities and analyse them with the help of peer group feedback.
  • develop resource-orientated solutions within the framework of peer group exchange.
  • offer their own experiences and examples of good practice in a topic- and solution-orientated manner in peer group feedback.
